What to expect…

Really, I would love to start out with what not to expect. Don’t expect formality. No family is really formal and your pictures shouldn’t reflect plastic smiles that don’t resemble you or your family members. Because I specialize in candid photography, I very rarely ask children or family members to look at me or my camera. If you’ve scheduled a family or child session, I do expect children to get comfortable in the outdoor surrounding – I like to watch them freely explore the outdoor environment and my goal is to capture them as they are being themselves. When children are comfortable, everyone else becomes less guarded as well – making it easy for me to capture genuine smiles and expressions that are familiar to you and worth remembering for all of time. Nothing contrived – ever.

Do expect…

To get a little messy – it’s ok – and believe it or not, you’re pictures will be reflective of a great time rather than the stressed-out moments that often accompany studio photography. Sometimes the best pictures end up being the one with a little dirt on the nose…But don’t worry, we won’t make it a mud-bath session!

What to wear…

Don’t worry about coordinating. If your child lives in a favorite t-shirt – bring it! Remember that these are outdoor photos…wear what makes you feel your best, not what you think is the “right thing” to wear. It shows in your pictures when you are comfortable in what you’ve chosen to wear and your final prints will reflect who each family member truly is – isn’t that what this is all about? If you opt to bring a change of clothes – that is perfectly fine too! If your child has a favorite hat, stuffed animal, rain boots, etc. bring it! It not only will make them more comfortable, but it helps with adding excitement when their favorite possession gets its picture taken.
